The Jesus Myth: Author Sid Martin Unearths The Truth In New Christian Book, "Secret Of The Savior"
Did
Jesus really exist? What is the Jesus myth? Where did the story of
Jesus come from? A new book by author and religious researcher Sid
Martin reveals the truth underlying the Gospel of Mark
[
Wilmington, NC March 5, 2014 ] The questions surrounding the life of
the man called Jesus have been the basis of heated debate and
controversy for centuries. The Jesus myth is still a hot topic today.
The Gospel of Mark is the earliest account of Jesus. What if the Gospel
is a myth of the messiah? Sid Martin, religious researcher and author
of a Christian book entitled 'Secret Of The Savior', believes that is
the case. His book puts forth the idea that that God is the Savior and
that Jesus is a symbol of salvation who stands for the process of God
saving man.
"I
wrote this book," Martin stated, "to reveal where the story of Jesus
really comes from. For too long, scholars have tried to recover the
historical Jesus, to separate the Jesus of history from the Christ of
faith. My analysis of the Gospel of Mark, the earliest Gospel
written, demonstrates that Jesus is a composite character. He stands
for a series of savior figures from Joshua to David to the Teacher of
Righteousness, and many others after that. There are many historical
Jesuses, not just one. People need to know that."
Sid Martin is
a religious researcher with a master of theological studies degree in
Biblical studies from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He is also a practicing attorney who specializes in legal research and
writing. His view of the Jesus myth is that Jesus is identified with a
series of savior figures from Joshua to David to the Teacher of
Righteousness—who founded the Essenes, the ancient Jewish sect who
wrote the Dead Sea Scroll—to Rabbi Johanan Ben Zakkai, the founder of
Rabbinic Judaism, and many others. The Gospel of Mark is ultimately an
ingenious myth about the history of salvation in Israel. 'Secret of the
Savior' unearths the hidden history buried beneath the surface in this
world-changing gospel.
"A person who reads this book," Martin
continued, "will come away with an understanding of the origins of the
Christian religion. The reader will come to appreciate the true meaning
of Mark’s Gospel. Mark’s message is that God has saved his people and
will do so again. Jesus is a symbol of salvation. The story of Jesus
embodies the history of salvation. Every person can be an instrument of
salvation, a Jesus for our time."
