[August 6, 2009
– Rancho Santa Margarita, CA] Author Rhonda Fischer announced
today that the Randy Kazandy tour will be visiting Orange County
California. Randy Kazandy is the main character in her highly
successful children’s book, Randy
Kazandy Where Are Your Glasses? The tour will be visiting
schools, libraries and bookstores in Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Dana Point,
Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Mission Viejo,
Ladera Ranch, Foothill Ranch, Lake Forest, Rancho Santa Margarita, San
Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, CA. Other towns and cities are slated
to be added later this year.
Since its publication, Randy Kazandy
Where Are Your Glasses? has become a favorite with children and
parents alike. Widely praised for the rich illustrations created by Kim
Sponaugle, the book was recently placed on display in the
Children’s Illustrated Art Museum in St. Louis, Missouri. In
addition it has been included in the current Follett listing, making Randy
Kazandy Where Are Your
Glasses? available to libraries nationwide. The book has been
approved by Parents magazine,
Old Schoolhouse
magazine and Stories for Children
magazine.
“Having Randy Kazandy accessible through these resources and on
display at the Children’s Illustrated Art Museum is fantastic
news for children,” stated Ms. Fischer, “as Randy will be
accessible to children through schools, bookstores and libraries across
the United States and Canada. I believe children who wear eyeglasses
and their parents will really benefit from having this book available.
The tour will bring Randy to life for children and parents
everywhere.”
Using music, props, pictures, and kinesthetic experiences, Rhonda
Fischer's highly interactive assemblies encourage children how to
‘love being me!’ The Catching Bubbles Song, accompanied by
a display of bubbles that oscillate and twinkle through the air as kids
try to catch the bubbles, fills the empty space. Children can be heard
singing the Randy Kazandy Time Song all through the school, mixed with
exclamations of ‘Hip Hip Hooray, It’s A Wonderful
Day’. As an author, classically trained
pianist, and educator, Ms. Fischer uses all these skills to inspire
children. The children will capture the joy of reading, improve
their writing, learn the fun of rhyme, and create works they are proud
of. A small presentation will be displayed of Ben Franklin, Orville
Wright and other famous people who wore glasses on request.
School visits can include assembly programs from 40 to 60 minutes in
length, or all day affairs. The presentations are designed specifically
for kindergarten through sixth grade age groups. Because Ms. Fischer
cannot address questions during the large assemblies, classroom
question and answer sessions can be arranged to give students a chance
to meet her on a more personal level where all students can be heard
and acknowledged. Evening programs can also be arranged and can include
a family book night with the author. Children love listening to the
story with their own pair of homemade glasses on. Ice cream socials,
pizza parties, and potluck suppers have also been successful. Children
can even be encouraged to dress in their pajamas.
“Ultimately the goal behind this book is to raise the self-esteem
of a child who is required to wear glasses,” says Ms. Fischer.
“This is almost universally perceived as a very negative event in
the life of a young child. Now schools and libraries can access a
resource that will directly address this issue in a way that will
engage, delight and inform.”
