Book Promotion For A Great Cause
If you intend to be successful in marketing your book,
you will need good publicity and good press.
Both of these can be quite hard to come by.
This program offers you, the author, an
opportunity to help others and to help yourself.
Scenario One
Imagine this scenario. You decide to hold a book signing. You call your local paper
and ask them if they would consider running a press release. Of course, you encounter
resistance, as this would most likely not fit into the newspaper's definition of a valid
press release. Newspapers are not in the business of offering free advertising.
So you call the local TV stations. They too reject your request.
Radio stations the same.
Regardless of media type, the purpose of a press release is to promote
community-wide newsworthy events.
Your book signing is frankly, just not news
The day of your book signing you get perhaps 10 or 20 people stopping by.
You sell perhaps 5 or 6 books and gather a few names for your mailing list.
This is, typically, how most book signings pan out
Now imagine this . . .
Scenario Two
You decide to hold a book signing. You call your local paper and ask them if they
would consider running a press release. They jump at the chance. In addition, they offer
to send reporters to cover the book signing for the next edition.
You call the TV station and they too gladly accept the request to provide free press -
they even offer to run ongoing promos leading up to the signing.
The day of the signing the TV station shows up to film a segment for the evening news.

Books for Boots, launched in June of 2007, is a
private, nonprofit organization
whose mission is to help hospitalized
veterans get a bedside visit from their family,
and to give those
hospitalized veterans some books to read.
Sometimes a
war hero's family lives too far from the hospital to afford the trip.
Books for Boots wants to help that family with their travel cost.
Time
hangs heavy for the veteran who is in hospital for a long while.
A good
book helps relieve the boredom.
BOOKS FOR BOOTS
partners with selected authors and publishers.
Authors donate a portion of their sales or royalties and publishers donate books.
The
money goes to poorer families to help them afford the cost of travel
for making a
bedside visit to their wounded war hero in a distant
hospital.
The books go to vets in hospitals.
This program, launched in June 2007, is part of a nonprofit 501(c)(3)
corporation founded in 1984.
This programs offers you, the author, a unique opportunity
to make a real difference in the lives of others
and to create a tremendous amount of goodwill.
Most importantly it can create a great
promotional opportunity for you.
Good press and good publicity is what the
